It seems only fitting that Sonja's birthday is October 24th, United Nations Day, and while growing up had birthday parties with an international theme.  Always interested in other cultures, her dream was to travel the world.

She grew up on the edge of a university campus in Indiana, where her father was a professor and her mother a graphic designer.  The large international student body further deepened her interest in other cultures.

As early as 7th grade, Sonja's entrepreneurial spirit found her starting a small business in which she drew and water colored customized "Name Pictures".  Her artwork was sold through several stores.  It could be found in many college dorm rooms and grew to become a popular personalized gift throughout the university and community.  When Sonja graduated she received a Bachelor of Arts degree.  Her studies included art and design, archeology, and Egyptian history.

To further her dream of traveling and exploring, Sonja became a flight attendant. She has visited six continents, done volunteer work in Mongolia and Tibet, and temporarily lived in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Turkey and various parts of Africa. Her journeys to international destinations have allowed her to travel the countryside, learn the history, explore ancient cities and archeological sights, visit historical museums, meet the people, and browse through the souks and markets for treasures and local handicrafts.  Extensive foreign exposure ultimately influenced her taste in jewelry.  When she returned from trips abroad, family and friends were interested in the jewelry she had purchased and the history that went along with each item.  The idea for Archeologico was born!

In her travels, Sonja uses her artistic ability and knowledge to select genuine gems, stones and accent pieces to create unique, one of a kind pieces of jewelry.  You too can treasure Archeologico jewelry ... designs inspired by the past for your present!
